– It is reported that a large party of alleged sportsmen, with dogs, are killing deer and elk at a reckless rate in the Lost Park region. What’s our populistic game warden and his deputies doing? Oh, they’re electioneering for Waite and telling what they’re going to do next year.

– Rifle’s 10th Apple Pie Day will be celebrated this year on Sept. 4th and 5th. A large number of Meeker and Rio Blanco people will be in attendance.
– Through the T.B. Scott Real Estate Agency, the White-Bear Land & Cattle company, this week transferred the remainder of its holdings at Buford to John R. Bartlett.
– The grade school will open Tuesday.
– Auto Tourist—How do you folks get along being so far away from a doctor? Mountain Rancher—Well, ye see, most of us up here have to die a natural death.
– Don’t bother father, dear, just now; his collar is too tight, and if you stir his feelings up he’s very apt to bite.

– Candidate number four in the 1969 Miss Rodeo Contest is blonde, blue-eyed Kay Brennan of Piceance Creek.
– The chief attraction in Rio Blanco County this week will be the two-day county fair starting Friday, Aug. 22 and running through Saturday, Aug. 23.

– State Fair Grand Champions are few and far between for Rio Blanco County. In fact, you are probably looking at the only one the area has ever had as 16-year-old Kati Wood surprised the field in the Dress Revue competition at Pueblo last Saturday
– In upriver news, Henry Kravis seems to have scored a lot of points with local folks invited up to his place last Friday evening for a cocktail party. Though we haven’t talked with everyone that attended the event, those we have chatted with appear to have come away very impressed—Henry’s a darn nice fellow!

– Rangely’s council members began work Monday night on the 1970 budget.
– An accident is a surprise arranged by nature.
– The offer of a $500 reward for information as to the guilty parties who shot out the street lights on Kennedy Drive has had no results. At least 15 people here in Rangely know the names of the guilty parties but non has claimed the reward. Tax money must be used to repair the damages, but the “code” that protects a wrongdoer will still apply.

– Taking time during his visit to Rangely, Japanese 4-H exchange student Diasuke Sasaki, met with Mayor Frances Green and librarian Diane Higgins in order to present the Rangely Library with two books, one which was written by his grandfather.
– Blake Smith recently returned from a six-day trip to Florida as his wish was granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado and Give Kids the World. Accompanying Blake on his magical journey were his parents, Mark and Cheri, and sister, Brooke.
