MEEKER I Both fifth and sixth grade basketball teams finished their regular season on Feb. 26. The Competitive team finished a perfect 7-0 season and won the Colorado River Youth Basketball League. Meeker defeated Silt handily in the championship game 35-11. When asked what coaching this group was like, Amy Chinn responded, “This was a fun bunch of kids! They worked hard at practice and got better every week. Each of them are extremely competitive individuals who work together as a team. They love the game of basketball and that made it fun for everybody involved.”

As for the fifth and sixth Recreation team, they played against Rifle 2 in the season ending tournament. They fought hard and battled to the end but could not come out with a win. Rifle took the game by only 3 points. When asked what coach Sean VonRoenn thought of this season, he said, “We had a great turnout with 13 boys; they put a season’s long worth of effort and made some great improvement. I look forward to watching both of these groups continue to play as they get older. The future of Meeker basketball looks bright.”
