The Meeker High School girls’ basketball season is nearing the end of the regular season, with just one week left of regular play.
“This season is flying by,” commented senior Ainsley Selle.
The team went 1-1 last weekend with a close 44-42 win over Gunnison and a 45-49 loss against Cedaredge.
Selle had 22 points over the weekend and leads the team in both rebounds and blocks.
The Cowboys are now 8-9 with just two games left before postseason districts begin followed by regionals. Both games are on the road with Aspen on Thursday and North Fork on Saturday.
“For the next two games of the regular season, we are focusing on moving the ball down the court fast, because we have a fast team,” began Selle. “We are focusing on those two-foot shots because they are easy shots.”
Once the regular season wraps up the team will focus on districts.
“We’re probably going to play Cedaredge again in the district pigtails, and we need to tighten up our third and fourth quarters and keep it fast-paced,” commented Selle.
A matchup against Cedaredge would be the third of the season with the Bruins coming out on top the first two times in very close games, both within five points.
“Cedaredge slows the game down a lot; we can speed it up and get more fast breaks, layups, etc.,” said Selle.
The Cowboys have multiple players capable of scoring and moving the ball well. Rylee Sullivan who leads in total points, Reese Clatterbaugh who leads in field goal percentage and Charlie Rogers who is sitting as the top three-point shooter.
“For districts and the post-season, I know that everyone on this team is going to go out there and give it all we have for a run at state,” finished Selle.
The Cowboys will hit the road Thursday for the next few weeks of play.
