MEEKER | In the second to last track meet of the year, the Cowboys traveled to Grand Junction for two days full of competition.
“The league meet went well for the kids,” began head coach John Strate.
The boys’ team won the League Championship, and “the girls team really surprised a lot of people with our quality relay teams,” Strate said.
“Zagar Brown really came on in the shot this week, improving his best throw by two feet,” commented Strate.
Brown’s throw put him in the mix to qualify for state and earned valuable team points to secure the league win against second place Cedaredge. The Bruins, who just came down from being a 3A team, were expected to sweep the boys and girls.

“Our boys team went into the week really focused on everyone chipping in and doing their part to get the win,” said Strate. “I am really proud of how our kids have stuck with it through the summer and all of the distractions that summer brings.”
