MEEKER | Meeker hosted Aspen High School at Sanderson Hills Park for a home meet on Saturday, utilizing trails in the Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park.
“We practice on these trails often, but do not usually get to host races there.” commented coach Marty Casey. “We ran into some scheduling issues with our normal course and found that only Aspen would be able to attend, and we jumped at the opportunity to race the trails.” The girls took on the course first, with Haylee Steele and Abby Amick competing for Meeker. Steele finished in 36 minutes and Amick in 41:48 for ninth and tenth places.
In the boys’ race Wyatt Rollins took second place, at 23:01. Brad Conrado was Meeker’s second finisher with fourth place, at 24 flat. Ashton Tapia turned up the heat this week, at 24:41 and fifth place. Haydyn Massey, preferring the trail running, took sixth at 24:52. Aidan Tapia and Cameron Hanberg were the next two across the line, in 25:26 and 25:49. Jacob Patterson, Meeker’s newest addition to the team, ran his first race of the season in 34:53 for ninth place. Lucas Robinson followed in 10th place at 36:37, and Asa Scofield finished in 39:48 for 11th.
“We were excited to share our trails this year — we received great feedback from the Aspen runners and coaches. Many thanks to Kari Jo and the ERBM Rec District for helping to make this happen!”
Meeker will compete at the Moffat County Invitational on Saturday at Loudy-Simpson Park, with high school races starting at 9:45 a.m.
