MHS cross country’s Rollins qualifies for state competition

MEEKER |  Meeker Cross Country competed in the 2A Region 5 meet on Friday at Confluence Park in Delta. The girls raced at noon, with Haylee Steele and Abi Amick representing the Cowboys.  Haylee finished in 54th place at 28:19, and Abi was 59th in 34:42.

The boys’ race found Wyatt Rollins as Meeker’s top runner, in 19:12 and a 14th place finish — earning him a trip to the State Championship meet this Saturday. The second Cowboy to the line was Bradley Conrado, 20th place at 19:58. Cameron Hanberg was not far behind in 27th at 20:21. Haydyn Massey had an excellent race, finishing 32nd with a new Personal Record of 20:40.Ryan Hanberg was five places behind at 20:56. Ashton and Aidan Tapia finished together, taking 42nd and 43rd places at 21:15 — with only a tenth of a second between them. Lucas Robinson ran the course in 31:44 for 77th place. The Cowboys were seventh in team scoring.  “We saw some solid performances amongst excellent competition,” said coach Marty Casey.  “Haydyn’s PR, Wyatt’s return to State — really good efforts by everyone.” Wyatt will be racing at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs on Saturday afternoon, with the 2A boys’ race starting at 1 p.m.
