MHS Volleyball is 4-3

MEEKER | Cowboy Volleyball heads into the weekend 4-3.

“We definitely felt the highs and lows of high school sports this past weekend,” began head coach Greg Cravens as he discussed the loss to Vail Christian and the win against Sorocco.

Both matches this weekend could be categorized in the very good column, just not the win column.

“Vail Christian’s outside hitters had a great match and we were not able to put up a block or play a good enough defense to stop the Saints,” said Cravens. “The Saints jump well and we only earned 11 points per set against Vail Christian; we need to be better at scoring points.”

In the game against Vail Reese Clatterbaugh and Rylee Sullivan led with 13 kills each Sullivan added three blocks while Clatterbaugh had two.

Saturday the Soroco Rams put up a fight but the Cowboys were much better offensively then they were Friday night.

“We ended the match with a .214 hitting efficiency, second best of the season,” commented Cravens.

Clatterbaugh led the attack with a 0.43 hitting percentage and 13 kills followed by Sullivan with 11 kills 0.241 percentage.

Meeker continued the offensive streak with 10 serving aces by Taylor Garcia, Clatterbaugh, Graycee Cravens, Sullivan and Sydney Ross and with only 2 errors.

“We finished Saturday earning an average almost 17 points a set,” wrapped up Cravens. “We will win a lot more sets if we can get that kind of offensive output.”

The Cowboys now look forward to a big match on Saturday when the 9-1 Rangely Panthers come to town.

“Rangely has been very good this year,” finished Cravens. “It is always a battle when you play them.”

Action starts at 10 a.m.
