MEEKER | It was a busy week for the Meeker cross country team, competing twice in four days. Tuesday found the full squad at the Rifle Creek Golf Course. The girls ran first, with Haylee Steele finishing in 48th place at a time of 27:55. The boys’ race had Aidan Tapia as Meeker’s first runner to finish in 20:18 for 31st place. Wyatt Rollins was close behind, 35th place at 20:33. Cameron Hanberg finished just 10 seconds and one place later, a new personal record (PR) of 20:43 and 36th. Remy Broussard finished 61st overall, with a PR of 27:55.
Friday the team participated in the Whistle Pig Invitational at the Yampa Valley Golf Course, co-hosted by Moffat County and Steamboat Springs high schools. We had three runners in the boys’ race: Rollins had his fastest race this season at 19:03 and an eighth place finish. Hanberg and Broussard achieved new PRs again, 20:33 and 25:45, and 19th and 37th places, respectively.
“We saw some great running this week. Everyone is working hard, and we are seeing the times come down,” said head coach Marty Casey. “We are excited for Regionals!”
Meeker will be competing in the Class 2A Region 4 competition in Dolores on Friday, with races starting at 10 a.m.
