Rollins heading to state competition.
Meeker’s cross country team traveled to Dolores for the 2A Region 4 meet on Friday. Telluride was the host school this year, and held the meet on the Boggy Draw trails. The girls raced first, and Haylee Steele managed the course in 29:03, finishing 68th overall. Wyatt Rollins had a great start in the boys’ race, and kept up the intensity throughout, earning an individual entry to the State Competition with his 15th place finish in 20:09. Aidan Tapia ran the course in 21:59, for 43rd place, Cameron Hanberg was 56th at 22:45, and Remy Broussard finished in 29:24 and 102nd overall. The Cowboys finished 12th as a team.
“I am so proud of all of my kids. This was a tough course, with strong competition, and everyone gave it their all,” said head coach Marty Casey. “I am especially impressed with Wyatt — to miss a month of running and finish the season while recovering from a collarbone fracture — he is certainly deserving of his return to state this year!” Wyatt will be running in the 2A Boys race at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
