More PRs for Cowboys at Glenwood Invitational

MEEKER | Meeker Cowboy track had an exciting weekend with lots of personal records earned at the Glenwood Springs Invitational.

“The kids had a hard week of practice but showed us just how they can prevail and what they are made of,” commented head coach Hallie Blunt. “They will continue to improve because of their work ethic.”

The PR’s began on Friday when Sam Hightower went big in pole vault.

“I think he will be a 12-foot vaulter by the end of the year,” Blunt said.

Brayden Raley and Addie Knowles also set PR’s with Raley clearing the first two bars in her first-ever attempt.

Forwarding to Saturday, Hightower did it again with a 5 foot 7 inch PR in the high jump and 39 feet 3 inches in the triple jump. The girls’ 4×200 meter relay was exciting and the girls competed with a big two-second PR and now sit third in the state. The 4×200 relay team includes Ellie Hossack, Jayde Turner, Adi Selle and Ainsley Selle.

“The 4×100 meter relay looked strong and shaved a second off and is currently second in the state,” said Blunt.

For individual girls, Adi is currently ninth in 300-meter hurdles and had a third-place finish with a time of 51.75 seconds and she had a 14 foot 9 inch PR in long jump that earned her fourth place. Rylee Sullivan is sitting top 10 in the triple jump and placed third with a 31 feet 3 inch jump. She is 15th in high jump and currently qualified for state.

The boys’ shot put has Judd Harvey qualified and sitting third in the state, he took second this past weekend. Dawson Wille is close to qualifying with his PR this weekend of 40 feet even. Harvey had a PR this weekend in the long jump with 18 feet 4 inches.

Coach Blunt recognized her assistant coaches for the continued improvement of the team. “We have some positive things happening because of the coaches’ hard work and I can’t thank Jordan Brown, Kirk Hossack and John Strate enough. I had the privilege to talk to the West Grand coach and Glenwood coach and the tradition of a strong program in Meeker is built from the success of Strate and we cannot thank him enough for coming back this year and helping when he can.”

This coming weekend is busy with a track meet Friday in Coal Ridge and then Saturday in Rangely.
