MEEKER I This past weekend, the Meeker High School Track and Field team traveled to Grand Junction for their second meet of the season, hosted by Palisade High School. This time, the weather cooperated.
The entire coaching staff was extremely pleased with performances. Athletes saw some great competition; most of the schools were quite a bit larger than Meeker. Although we were missing a few girls and boys due to State FCCLA in Denver, we had several outstanding performances, which showed the kids and coaches the potential we have this season.
Bailey Atwood again threw well placing third in shot put with a toss of 31- 09.50. Our girls 4×400 and sprint medley squads performed very well placing eighth in both races. Both teams were extremely young, consisting of many freshmen and a sophomore: the 4×400 team (Adrienne Wix, Tristan Nielsen, Kaylyn Edwards and Kaysyn Chintala); the medley team (Adrienne Wix, Kristen Rowland, Savannah Johnson and Tristan Nielsen). We are excited to see our young athletes performing so well.
The boys also had some great performances. Colton Brown started the day with placing second in the high jump at 6-0. Toby Casias placed eighth in the open 100; he also looked very strong in his open 200, placing fifth in a time of 24.57. Jared Frantz ran a great open 400, placing seventh with a time of 54.14. Brock Campbell had one of his best races ever; he came out on top of the 800 with a time of 2:05.11. The boys 4×100 placed eighth with J.J. Wyatt, Pat Love, Tala Atofa and Alema Atofa. The boys’ last race of the day was also a great race. The 4×400 placed fifth with a team consisting of Toby Casias, Jared Frantz, Tala Atofa and Brock Campbell.
Overall, the boys’ team placed seventh out of 15 teams.
