RANGELY I With only half of the 14 varsity weights filled last Saturday in Oak Creek, the Panther wrestling team placed six of its seven varsity wrestlers in the top three, including one champion, and placed fourth as a team in the Soroco Invitational.

Holiday mail for heroes …
Rangely Cub Scout Packs 189/191 held a pack meeting and did a service project called “Holiday Mail for Heroes” affiliated with the Red Cross, where scouts and families make cards for our service men and women everywhere to show gratitude for their service.
Old Man Winter…
Meeker finally received some much-needed snow Sunday evening and into Monday but the sky was blue and the sun was shining Tuesday. About four inches fell in Meeker and 18 inches were reported to have fallen in nearby Steamboat Springs.

MHS Cowboys earn 2nd place at WREA Shootout
MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys basketball team gained a berth in the championship game of the annual White River Electric “Cowboy Shootout” Saturday afternoon, but ended on the short side of the stick as they fell to Moffat County 50-46.
RDH open house …
Rangely District Hospital will host an open house in the new hospital Friday, Dec. 14, giving tours of the new facility starting at 11 a.m. The new hospital is expected to open Jan. 7, 2013.

Hunter Garcia and Codee Woodward were the winners of Yeti coolers, along with shirts and hats from Strawberry Creek Outfitters, sponsors of the Big Buck and Bull contest at Barone Middle School.

RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team played two games in the Basin Challenge last weekend in Duchesne, Utah, where they beat the host team but lost to Altamont.
Home tour raises awareness
MEEKER I More than 80 people toured five featured homes in Meeker Sunday, Dec. 2 during the first annual Little Points of Light home tour. The event, which complemented Horizons Specialized Services’ annual Little Points of Light mail campaign, raised awareness about, and funds for, the non-profit organization.

MEEKER I As the snow season approaches, please remove everything from the street, such as trailers parked along the curb or in cul-de-sacs, vehicles that are not used all of the time and basketball hoops.
