Woof Fest will be part of Septemberfest

In conjunction with Septemberfest, a new event, Woof Fest, will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Elks Park. The event will feature numerous contests, including an essay contest and a photo contest, as well as a silent auction for a handmade quilt.

Hantavirus cases have happy endings decade apart

Hantavirus may not be a very common disease. But it can be deadly. Joe Merriam almost found that out the hard way. Merriam’s daughter, Annie, contracted the disease in 1999, during the summer before her senior year at Meeker High School. She nearly died.

RHS golfers open season

RANGELY I After only three days of practice, Rangely Senior High golfers participated in their first tournament Aug. 12 at Battlement Mesa Golf Course. Playing a tough course and in windy conditions, the Panthers struggled according to coach Ellen Boudreaux.

Local couples place in Meeker tourney

MEEKER I Twenty-eight teams filled the Meeker Golf Course last weekend and although only a handful were local, two of them placed in two of the three flights in the annual couples tournament. Couples from three states competed in the annual two-day, 36-hole event.
