RANGELY — Special team turnovers proved to be the undoing of the Panthers during the weekend. The Altamont Longhorns took advantage of a poor snap and a blocked punt to defeat the Panthers 25-12.

\MEEKER — The Meeker High School varsity football team opened the season in grand form last Friday night with a convincing 34-14 victory over the hometown Basalt Longhorns.

Weather helps stop Jordan Fire

MEEKER — Rain, clouds, lower temperatures and higher humidity over the Jordan Fire has effectively stopped fire spread as of Aug. 31. The fire is located seven miles northwest of Meeker in the Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area.

Future of Fairfield Center space unsettled

RBC — County commissioners are considering different options for the Fairfield Center, once the Meeker Public Library moves out and relocates to its new home down the street.

Meeker resident remains in ICU

\MEEKER — Meeker resident Tom Titus sustained serious injuries from a motorcycle accident Saturday, Aug. 23. Titus was flown to Denver where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
