RIO HAPPENINGS: May 4-10, 2025

ARRESTS

5/7/2025- A 37 year-old female was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs and Drove Vehicle with Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08 or more. She was issued a summons and released to a sober party.

5/11/2025- A 35 year-old male was taken into custody on several out of county warrants as well as local charges to include Refusal to Leave Premises or Property upon Request from Peace Officer with Possession of a Deadly Weapon, Prohibited use of a Firearm, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment and Violation of a Protection Order. He was taken to the hospital and admitted.

CALL SUMMARIES

5/4/2025 @ 4:46 pm. Smoke was reported in the area of County Road 2 on BLM property. A deputy located the smoke, there were no flames. BLM fire responded.

5/7/2025 @ 6:05 am. A single vehicle accident occurred at approximately the 14 mile-marker on Highway 64. The driver sustained minor injuries however refused medical treatment.

5/7/2025 @ 3:37 pm. A landlord was called in for harassing her tenant. When deputies arrived, the landlord was arrested for DUI as she was also in control of the vehicle she was in when deputies arrived on scene.

5/8/2025 @ 9:08 pm. A suspicious vehicle was reported at the 17 mile marker on Highway 64 occupied by at least 3-4 people yelling in a van  sitting on the side of the highway. A deputy responded to check on them and ultimately they decided to move on and go check out Vail.

5/9/2025 @ 6:48 am. A one vehicle accident occurred at the 15 mile-marker on Highway 13. The single occupant sustained significant injuries and was flown to the hospital.

5/10/2025 @ 5:16 pm. Hay bales being carried on the back of a truck caught fire on County Road 15 which subsequently caught the truck on fire. No injuries were reported. Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. responded and had the fire under control at 6:07 pm.

5/10/2025 @ 9:28 pm. The Communications Center received a call regarding a male subject at a residence who was reported to be exhibiting manic behavior and known to have outstanding warrants. Deputies from the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office responded and attempted to make contact with the individual; however, all communication efforts were unsuccessful. Given the subject was armed and had barricaded himself inside the residence, Rio Blanco County authorities requested further assistance. Meeker PD, Meeker Fire/Rescue and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to assist with efforts to safely take the male subject into custody. After several hours of negotiations by SWAT negotiators, the suspect was safely apprehended without further incident. The male subject was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical examination.
