ARRESTS
10/19/2025- A 66 year-old male was arrested on suspicion of Driving Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs or both and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle on a Public Highway. He was issued a citation and released to a sober party.
10/27/2025- Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 43 year-old male for 2nd Degree Assault and Menacing. He was taken to jail and remains in custody.
CALL SUMMARIES
10/19/2025 @ 8:25 pm. Impaired Driver vs Livestock- Officers received a report about a vehicle striking 2 black cows and fleeing the scene on Highway 64. Once deputies had caught up to the driver and conducted a traffic stop they confirmed it was the correct vehicle by the loss of the front bumper and, possibly, its dignity. Officers conducted a field sobriety test and suspected the driver was under the use of drugs/ or alcohol. He was taken into custody.
10/20/2025 @ 7:36 am. Smoke report- Dispatch received a smoke report west of town near Ute Park. Officers that were in the area went to check to see if there was any possible signs of smoke in the area. When arriving to the area, it was determined that the “smoke” was, in fact, a normal cloud formation. Responders did state cloud did look “pretty convincing.”
10/22/2025 @ 9:40 pm. Cows “Screaming” – Officers received a report about “A herd of cows screaming” causing a noise disturbance. When an officer arrived on scene and made contact with the animals in question, they appeared to be very vocal and had some words to say. After several minutes and a failed attempt to “moo back,” the officer found no real criminal activity other than the cows wanting more hay.
10/24/2025 @ 7:44 pm. Vehicle Crash- Deputies responded along with Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. to a car crash on County Rd 77. The driver appeared to have left the roadway hitting a deep and steep embankment. The driver received no crucial injuries while one of the passengers was taken by private vehicle to the hospital. Colorado State Patrol is handling the investigation.
10/24/2025 @ 9:07 pm. Nuisance Bear- A Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer was notified of a nuisance bear near a residence by Kenney Reservoir. The caller stated he was able to successfully encourage the bear to leave.
