MEEKER I January was library month at Meeker Elementary School. We set a goal of reading an accumulated 40,000 minutes. When all was tallied we read 140,973 minutes. Preschool through fifth-grade kept track of their minutes. We were very excited to have 10 adults turn in their time as well.

Repairs begin on school
MEEKER I A special meeting was called Monday, Jan. 30 for superintendent Susan Goettel to inform the board that the addendum had been negotiated and a draft budget prepared by Jim West of Vanir (the Meeker School District’s owner’s representative), including the additional cost to the district.

MEEKER I One of Meeker’s biggest 2011 stories had a ripple effect on schools across the state. Built in 2010, the $18 million Meeker Elementary School was closed to students and staff in August 2011 over concerns about structural safety.

In a busy week filled with Christmas parties and programs at all the local schools, students from Meeker Elementary presented their annual winter concert for parents, family and friends.

MEEKER I “All things considered, we feel this is good news,” Wayne Muir of Structural Consultants Inc. (SCI) said after he and Frank Bumgarner presented an engineering report to the Meeker School Board about the planned repairs at the Meeker Elementary School building.

MEEKER I It has been said that noteworthy people never come to Meeker, but on Nov. 17 Barone Middle School enjoyed the company of very important people as Meeker Elementary School fifth-graders presented “Night at the Museum.”

MEEKER I “This was one of the most brilliant technical presentations I have ever had the privilege of listening to,” local geologist and retired attorney Frank Cooley said of the soils report presented at a special meeting of the Meeker Board of Education, Tuesday last.
