Obituary: Chris Holthus
Christopher (Chris) Holthus was born of the flesh on Feb. 1, 1971, in Denver. He passed away Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2010, and was born of the spirit on this day. He fought a diligent battle with lymphoma for one and one-half years prior to his death.

MEEKER I As school districts scramble to respond to impending state budget cuts, one option being considered on both ends of the county is the four-day school week. Rangely’s school district has held public forums and surveys while it studies whether to switch to the four-day school week.

Evan Edwards, a Meeker High School senior, was the People’s Choice winner, which included a $500 prize, for his drum performance during the Meeker’s Got Talent performance at the chamber of commerce’s annual banquet Feb. 11.
Silver medalist Spillane has a local connection
MEEKER I There was a local connection during the 2008 Summer Olympics with Billy Nelson qualifying for the steeplechase event. His father, Bill Nelson, is a supervisor with Summit Industries in Meeker. There’s also a local connection with the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Meeker hosts playoff game Saturday
MEEKER I After a crushing defeat to the Paonia Eagles in the regular season finale, the Meeker girls’ basketball team finished as the No. 4 seed and will host a district playoff game this Saturday against Soroco.
