Mountain lion blamed in dog’s death
MEEKER — John and Sherri Purkey lost one of their Chihuahuas on Sunday night. The Purkeys think the dog was the victim of a mountain lion attack. “We have heard of some sightings in our area,” Sherri said. “But we haven’t seen any ourselves.”

Saucedo transferred
Army Staff Sgt. Daniel Saucedo, husband of Deni Back of Meeker, was seriously wounded during a mission July 27 in Iraq.
Soldier back in U.S., faces long recovery
MEEKER — Army Staff Sgt. Daniel Saucedo, the husband of Deni Back of Meeker, was able to be transferred last Friday from Germany to a military hospital in Washington, D.C., but he’s still listed in serious condition.
