MEEKER I Meeker volleyball hit the road for their toughest match of the season in Delta.
“What a fun weekend for the volleyball team,” commented head coach Greg Cravens, “We went to Delta Thursday night and played a five set thriller.”
Scores were 25-13, 14-25, 21-25, 25-22, and 15-9.
Emma Luce led the attack with 34 kills and Aspen Merrifield had seven, with most of the assists coming from Tatumn Kennedy who had 44 for the game. Serving Luce led with four aces and Ellie Hossack had three.
At the net Ainsley Selle had the most blocks, while defensively Luce had 24 digs, just four more than libero Sarah Kracht who had 20. In the serve receive Kracht handled 51 of the serves.
“Delta is a good team that serves very well and challenged our serve receive all night long. It was a real team effort to get the win,” said Cravens.
Friday Cowboy volleyball was the first team to host the Limon Badgers as they came here for softball and football as well. The Cowboys won in three sets holding the Badgers to 38 points, 25-9, 25-13, and 25-16.
“The display the girls put on Friday was something I knew they had in them but I wasn’t sure when they were going to show it,” commented Cravens. “They played well in all parts of the game. We passed well. We served better than we have all season. We set all the right hitters and the hitters were scoring points. It was a very enjoyable match to watch.”
Luce added another 26 kills to her all season number bringing her to 130 total, Merrifield had six kills, Kennedy set a solo game, and Hossack once again led in serving aces.
At the net Nora Gianineti had three blocks and once again Kracht defensively controlled the serves, with 20 serve receives, and had 15 digs.
“To top off the great week, we got to watch the softball team and football teams which doesn’t happen for us a lot of weekends.”
The team now looks to Soroco for a Saturday game beginning at 1 p.m.
