MEEKER I It was a short but tough week for Cowboy softball. The team traveled to Rifle Thursday for a non-league game, losing to a ranked 4A team, 10-0.
“It was a tough loss against Rifle on Thursday night,” began head coach Kendal Bergman, “the defense performed well backing up pitchers Hailey Knowles and Brea Garcia during the game.”
The Rifle pitcher kept the Cowboy hitting lineup pretty quiet but there were solid hits by Wagner Brown and Kastyn Dembowski.
“We look forward to getting a win streak started up again this weekend against Gunnison on Friday and Eagle Valley on Saturday,” said Bergman. “Gunnison is always good competition for us but if we get our bats going like we can then it will be a good game for the Cowboys. We hope to get some redemption against Eagle Valley after losing to them earlier this season in extra innings.”
Friday the team travels to Gunnison for a double header, and Saturday Eagle Valley comes to Meeker for varsity which begins at 1 p.m.
