MEEKER | A winning weekend for Cowboy basketball, they went 2-0 on the weekend and it improved their overall record to 50% (3-3)
“We played better, we shot the ball better both games, and we were finally able to put some scoring runs together,” commented head coach Klark Kindler.
On the road for game one, the North Fork Miners took the early lead and were up seven points at the half. The Cowboys came out strong at the half, holding the Miners to just eight points while putting up 18 and taking the lead.
Zagar Brown and Casey Brink each contributed 14 of the 52 points for the Cowboys in the 52-48 win. Brown also led off the boards with 10 rebounds and both Brink and Zach Simonsen had seven.
Saturday, in the first game of 2022 at home, the Olathe Pirates came to town. The Cowboys dominated early and commanded the lead the entire game.
Simonsen came within 2 points of 20, scoring 18, and Jace Mobley scored 10, leading the Cowboys to the 55-27 victory.
The Olathe Pirates are in the same league as Meeker, and this win brought the league record up to 1-1.
The Cowboys now look forward to a big night Thursday night in Grand Valley where all of the winter sports teams will be competing. Friday they hit the road to challenge another league opponent, Plateau Valley, JV begins at 4 p.m. Thursday the games will start at approximately 6:30 p.m. for girls varsity with the boys varsity to follow.
