MEEKER I Both of Meeker’s youth football teams won their games last weekend.
The third- and fourth-grade team won its game in overtime, 12-6, against New Castle, while the fifth- and sixth-grade team overpowered New Castle 31-0 in its game.
In a defensive battle, the third- and fourth-grade Mustangs scored the go-ahead touchdown and then prevented New Castle from scoring.
In the fifth- and sixth-grade game, the older Mustangs dominated in what turned out to be a rough affair.
“… when New Castle players intentionally hurt teammates and took cheap shots every chance they had, our kids took care of business the right way,” said Meeker head coach Dave Cole. “Coaching and teaching kids to be cheap and dirty isn’t going to get them very far, especially playing this group of boys. They truly played for each other and took a stand. They played football with pride and class.”
The week before, the two Mustang teams won their games 26-12 and 26-0. Both teams are now undefeated after four games, with two games remaining.
