MEEKER | During the height of the fall color, eight Meeker Cowboys traveled to Aspen to run in the Chris Severy Invitational cross country meet. “Aspen is a beautiful course, but we know it is a tough one, and do not expect great times,” commented head coach Marty Casey. As a team, the varsity boys placed eighth but the girls only had three runners and not enough to qualify for a team score.
Gabe Richardson was the top runner for the boys this week, he finished in 29th place out of 96 boys with a time of 22 minutes, 34.30 seconds. He was followed by Shane Kobald who came in just shy of 13 seconds slower and in 34th place. Also running were Owen Hanneman, Damon Dade, and Gage Richardson.
“Brighton Bair finished in the top 20 out of 91 girls’ racers,” said Casey. Bair came in 19th with a time of 25:53.7 and was the top Cowboy for the week. Freshmen Gwyn Hooks and Kate Lockwood also took to the course for the girls wrapping up the team of three.
This week there is a quick turn-around to the next meet; the team will be traveling to Rifle on Wednesday afternoon, with races starting at 4:40 p.m. This is the last regular season meet for the cross country team before a week off and then on to regionals.
