RANGELY — On Dec. 11, Troop 3237, approximately 23 smiling Girl Scouts, squeezed into the Rangely Animal Shelter, bringing with them sacks of dog food, cat food and many toys for the animals. These young girls consisted of Brownies, Juniors and Daisies, all working toward earning community service patches. This particular tour was to learn about pet care and to view firsthand the shelter and shelter animals. Accompanying the young Scouts were Millie Archuleta, Michelle Boe and Connie Mick.
Kay Nickson, shelter manager, and Heidi Emerson, shelter technician, toured the girls through the shelter, explaining the purpose of the shelter, what each room, cage, (inside and out) was for and how the animals were housed, fed and cared for.
Great interest was shown by the young girls and many, many questions were asked. One of the main questions was, “What could the shelter use the most ?” They were advised blankets were of great need and each girl made that their next shelter project.
Refreshments were served at the completion of the tour.
The shelter staff would like to thank the Girl Scouts for their donations, their interest and invite them back to visit the animals again.
