RANGELY I The Rangely High School girls’ basketball squad played South Routt County (Soroco) in the final game before the holiday break. The team came up short against the Rams, giving the girls a breather over the holidays.
The Rangely girls came out strong in the first quarter, but the intense defensive pressure and fast tempo proved to be too much for the Panthers.
Coach Quinton Kent said, “We played well in the first quarter, but could not sustain our intensity and they wore us down.”
Rangely once again had times when they looked great, taking advantage of good defense and attacking the basket. However, the team’s offensive productivity decreased as the Rams played extremely tough, physical defense.
Rangely hopes to regroup over the break, and the girls will begin their regular season league play on Jan. 8, when they travel to Plateau Valley. The girls will then turn around and play host to Cedaredge on Jan. 9.
