Rangely participates in health fair

RANGELY — Just one visit can change your life.
That’s what you may experience when you attend the 9Health Fair on April 19.
Rangely District Hospital is proud to be partnered with the fair to bring free and low-cost health screenings along with educational information from the many participating health-related organizations to our community. The fair will be held at the CNCC Weiss Center from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Kelly Just is the 9Health Fair’s 2008 coordinator. She is excited that Rangely is one of the communities throughout Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska to participate.
“I am so grateful to all of the individuals who will volunteer to make this event happen,” she said.
More than 20 free and low-cost screenings are available to help people get a baseline check on their health including a 31-component comprehensive metabolic screening for $30, a $25 prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening and a blood count screening for $15. Free tests such as oral health, osteoporosis, finger stick glucose, breast exam, body in balance and mental health are available.
Educators from various health-related organizations will be on hand to answer questions about issues ranging from prescription drugs, diabetes, diet and exercise and more.
In 2007, through a collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Hospital, the 9Health Fair is offering expanded colon cancer education. Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and this information reinforces the importance of early detection and encourages people to take appropriate follow-up action.
Created by a National Institutes of Health project and 9News of Denver, the fair has earned unique endorsements from Colorado’s Medical Society, Nurses Association and Hospital Association and since 1980 has impacted millions of lives. As an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the fair relies on sponsorship funding and grants to support its operation.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of 9Health Fair,” Just said, “and our community program would not be possible if we didn’t have the generous support of the medical community, as well as non-medical volunteers. They are extremely important in helping participants register, check forms, direct traffic flow, conduct height/weight/body mass index screenings and much more. The 9Health Fair provides anyone 18 and older with an opportunity to get involved with the health and wellness of people in their community, including their neighbors, friends and family. The overall result of this program impacts our whole community in so many ways.”
