Several members of Rangely’s track team place at state meet

RANGELY I On Wednesday, the Rangely High School Panthers track team took off with 13 athletes and three managers for the state track meet in Lakewood. During the meet, several members earned finishes that placed at the meet.

Meet action began Thursday afternoon with Colt Allred throwing the discus, followed by Troy Allred and Brennan Noyes in the triple jump, the 4×200-meter relay, the 100-meter hurdles with Sarah Connor, the 110-meter high hurdles with Mitchell Webber, the 4×800-meter relay, Savannah Nielsen in the 3200-meter run and Patrick Scoggins in the 400-meter dash.
On Friday morning, Colt Allred started the team off with the shot put, Katelyn Brown competed in the triple jump, Mitchell Webber ran in the 300-meter hurdles, Patrick Scoggins and Ethan Allred ran the 800-meter run, then the 4×400-meter relay finished the day.
On Saturday, Kaulan Brady and Brennan Noyes high jumped and Patrick Scoggins competed in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Colt Allred was able to throw the discus 139 feet and place fifth overall. He was also able to throw the shot put 44-6.5, and for that effort he placed ninth.
“Colt will be missed next year; he is someone who usually scores for us, but, more importantly, he is a hard worker and good example for the underclassmen,” coach Beth Scoggins said.
Senior Ethan Allred was part of three relays—the 4×200-meter, the 4×400-meter and the 4×800-meter relays—and he ran the 800-meter run. In the 800-meter run, he placed 14th with a time of 2:08.44, which was a personal best for him.
“Ethan is someone you can always count on; he works hard and is willing to step in whenever needed.” Scoggins said.
Senior Mitchell Webber was part of the 4×400-meter relay and he ran the 110-meter hight hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. He was able to place 10th in the high hurdles with a time of 16.99, just missing the finals by .10 of a second. In the 300-meter hurdles he took 12th with a time of 43.37.
“Mitchell is a great hurdler and hard worker,” Scoggins said. “He is always willing to lend a helping hand to the younger team mates. He will be missed.”
Junior Kaulan Brady was able to get a personal best in the high jump with 5-11 for eighth place; he was also a part of the 4×200-meter relay team.
Freshman Brennan Noyes, was also in the high jump, clearing 5-11 and placing fifth. He placed higher even though he jumped the same because he had fewer misses.
“It is fun to watch these two young men jump together; they are always helping each other and giving pointers when needed.”
Noyes also placed ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 39-2.75.
Sophomore Troy Allred triple jumped but wasn’t able to get a mark.
Freshman Katelyn Brown triple jumped good enough for fifth place with a personal best and freshman record of 34.2.25.
Savannah Nielsen ran the 3,200-meter run placing 16th with a time of 13:14.91 while Sarah Connor placed 16th in the hurdles with a time of 18.51
Freshman Patrick Scoggins was in two relays, the 4×400-meter and the 4×800-meter run, and he ran the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. He captured eighth in both individual events with new personal bests and freshman records. His 400-meter dash was in 51.57 and 800-meter run was 2:02.44.
Unfortunately, the 4×200-meter relay team was disqualified in the prelims so they didn’t get a place or time. The team was made up of Nych Deleon, Ethan Allred, Kiki Ruiz and Kaulan Brady. The original team had Patrick Scoggins and Colt Allred on it, but they were not able to run it at state.
“I am very proud of the relay team; they ran hard and had to overcome some difficulties at the last minute.” Scoggins said.
The 4×400-meter relay team, made up of Mitchell Webber, Ethan Allred, Troy Allred and Patrick Scoggins, placed 13th with a time of 3:44.48.
The 4×800-meter relay team with Ethan Allred, Troy Allred, Zach Glasgow and Patrick Scoggins placed sixth with a new school record of 8:39.27.
“I am very pleased with all the athletes, they have worked hard this season and it has paid off at state,” coach Scoggins said. “ I look forward to seeing what the next year will bring for the returning athletes, but we will miss the seniors.”
