MEEKER | There’s one more meet this year to keep cutting times for the Moffat County swimmers. This past weekend the relay events saw some large cuts in times and now are just over two seconds away from qualifying for 3A Colorado State Swimming.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alexa Neton, Jeni Kincher, Ellina Jones and Kelsey McDiffet placed seventh with a posted time of 1 minute 58.85 seconds, cutting just over a second off of the previous week.
“These are some big time cuts from the Glenwood meet,” commented head coach Melany Neton. “This week we will focus on our relay starts and turns.”
In other events the JV 200 medley relay of Meeker’s Kate Lockwood, Mackenzie Anderson, Anna Cooper and Sarah Johnson took eighth place with a time of 2 minutes 34.84 seconds. Lockwood also finished 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute 30.93 seconds and Kincher placed 12th at 1:30.01. Kincher swam the 100-yard freestyle in 1 minute 6.68 seconds earning seventh, her highest placement in the tournament.
On Saturday the team was once again in the water in Grand Junction. The varsity relay team took fifth in both the 200 freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke; shaving a little time off of each.
They have one more meet in Montrose on Friday, Dec. 20 before Christmas break.
