Steer…

That’s a lot of beef under that rope, and it was impressive enough to earn its owner, Megan Parker, a first-place ribbon in Heat Three of the Beef 4-H Market Class at the Rio Blanco County Fair. In that same heat, second place went to Kaden Franklin and third went to Kolbi Franklin. Parker is a senior and has run out of eligibility at the fair, but she has been an award winner for several years.

Diorama…

There were several dioramas on display at the Rio Blanco County Fair, and this one, which garnered a champion ribbon, is titled “Parts of a Compound Bow.” The display was created by Dayton Willey and was a part of the county’s 4-H competition.

Reserve champion poultry winner…

There were some good looking turkeys, geese and chickens on display at the annual Rio Blanco County Fair last week, and one of the best there belonged to Brendan Clatterbaugh, whose duck captured the title of Reserve Champion Poultry. In the 4-H/FFA Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday evening, Clatterbaugh sold his duck for $250 to Susan Stout.

Sunset over fairgrounds…

Just as the sun begins to set above the parking areas at the Rio Blanco County Fair on Friday, it is obvious that the parking lots are full but also that the infield of the parking area was plumb full of campers, mostly from Rangely, who took advantage of the camper parking during the closing days of the Rio Blanco County Fair at the Meeker fairgrounds.

Talents on display…

Numerous quilts of all sizes, shapes and designs were on display in the exhibit hall at the Rio Blanco County Fair, demonstrating the talents of the quilters throughout Rio Blanco County. The center quilt was chosen for second place and Reserve Champion honors. The quilt was completed by Lori Farris.

Tumble…

Some days go better than others, but Connor Blunt’s day got extra tough in front of the spectators at the Li’l Buckaroo Rodeo on Saturday afternoon. Blunt did a face plant into the dirt in the middle of the arena during the rodeo’s calf riding event, which was part of the annual Rio Blanco County Fair.

4-H PeeWee Horsemanship…

Molly Theos, right, leads Lukas Coryell around the poles in one part of the 4-H PeeWee Horsemanship Class. For the youngest riders, they are allowed to be led around the obstacle course; not so for the older riders. The class was held Saturday on the far north track at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds in Meeker as one of the opening events for the fair.
