The winner of the Rio Blanco County Fair Cake Decorating Challenge is Natalie Knight, second from right in the front row. Knight was overall champion, having taken first place in Unit 1. Other winners were: Jessy Pelloni, who took second place in Unit 1; Cori Mohr, who took first place in Unit 2; Carys Walton, who took second place in Unit 2; Sierra Gomez, who took first place in Unit 4; Mary Baylie, who took first place in Unit 6; Jenna Pelloni, who took first place in pre-Cloverbud; and Holt Pelloni, who won first place in Cloverbud.

After preliminary events, Rio Blanco County Fair moves into full swing

Proud of her first-place ribbons is Isabella Brown of Vernal, Utah, who was busy Friday morning competing in the PeeWee Horsemanship Class events. Several children from Utah and Northwest Colorado, including Rangely and Meeker, competed in the class events.

Many reasons to take part in the fair

This flag afghan is one of 15 afghans submitted this year to the Rio Blanco County Fair by Meeker newcomer Vi Frazier. Frazier won several awards and ribbons, and she is just one of many whose pastimes earned them wide acclaim at the fair. The Rio Blanco County Extension Office is encouraging more people to enter the fair in any one or more of several categories from flower arrangements to photography to quilts and fruit canning. For more information, call the Extension Service at 878-9490 in Meeker or 878-9495 in Rangely. It is not too early to start making your plans now to enter the 2015 fair.

RBC I Each year, the Rio Blanco County Fair Board hires approximately 10 judges to evaluate the indoor exhibits. This year, though, an interesting challenge arose in the new exhibit hall when an abundance of needlework exhibits filled the tables.

RBC I Rio Blanco County community members are cordially invited to attend the 4-H Fashion Revue coming up! The Meeker 4-H Cake Decorating Club and the Sweet Sewing Sisters Clothing Construction Club are hosting the annual 4-H Fashion Revue today at 7 p.m. in the West Exhibit Hall at the Fairgrounds.

Fair books for the 2011 Rio Blanco County Fair are out and fair board members Forrest Nelson, Danny Lapp, Adair Norman, Ed Coryell and Cindy Garner, (Mary Washburn) and Karen Arnold dedicated it to Mary Washburn and presented her with the first copy, which includes a tribute to her inside.
