Rio Blanco County republicans held their annual general assembly last Saturday in Rangely on the CNCC campus with 51 delegates attending. I admire what republican chairman David Smith called the “gumption” it takes to “step up” and run for office.
“The key,” she said, “was getting people to work together,” she being Peggy Rector, a woman known for her great ability to use that key, as evidenced by the many things she has been an integral part of.
It has been fun traveling around the state the past couple of weeks watching our local kids compete but I was reminded of my need to pay attention to my driving, especially in Meeker.
First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with the family from Rangely who suffered a tragic loss last week. There are many events to bring people together in the shortest (but sometimes longest) month of the year.

Did anyone watch the Broncos’ playoff game Sunday last? How much fun was that? (If I were texting this to someone, I would have added a after the question marks because sometimes a simple smiley face is a great response, especially if you have a good idea but are not sure of the correct answer.)

Merry Christmas, everyone. We may not get a white Christmas this year, as the forecast is for blue skies and sunshine Christmas day. Hopefully everyone’s celebrations will be as warm and bright as the weather.

Small businesses are getting national press and support from business advocacy groups and public and private organizations this shopping season. Led by American Express, Facebook and The 3/50 Project, among many others, the groups have created a national advertising campaign to support small businesses across the country.
God bless our veterans and many thanks to them and their families for their service. Local veterans will be recognized Veterans Day in both Meeker and Rangely and I encourage everyone to not only participate and thank them on this special day, which happens to be 11-11-11, but to keep them in your prayers everyday.
