MEEKER | The Meeker Cowboys High School volleyball team kicked off an outstanding homecoming weekend Friday with a sweep against the visiting Cedaredge Bruins. Meeker, riding a four-game winning streak, extended their run to five straight with a dominant performance, winning all three sets. The Cowboys had previously defeated Cedaredge in their September 2023 matchup.
Head Coach Greg Cravens expressed his pride in the team’s performance, particularly highlighting their improvement in two key areas.
“Our serving has been good for the last two or three weeks. Our blocking tonight was spectacular,” Cravens said.
Meeker’s defense tightened as the match progressed, allowing fewer points with each set. The Cowboys took the first set 25-22, the second 25-15, and closed the night with a 25-10 victory.
“We haven’t blocked like that all year long, so if we could do that the next few weeks, that would help out greatly,” Cravens added.
The win improved Meeker’s record to 8-3 on the season and marked their eighth consecutive home victory, dating back to last year. Cravens praised standout performances from several players.
“Reese Clatterbaugh at the net—blocking. They even adjusted their rotation so their big girl wasn’t hitting against Reese, and she just kept blocking,” Cravens said. Clatterbaugh finished with seven total blocks, including three solo blocks and four assists.
Cravens also highlighted the achievements of Graycee Cravens, who reached a career milestone during the match.
“Graycee ended the game serving. She’s been serving very well, and she just hit 1,000 career assists, so she’s pretty happy about that,” Cravens said.
Graycee Cravens reflected on the significance of her 1,000 assists milestone.
“This accomplishment is not only for me but for my dad. Being the only daughter in the family, reaching this achievement is as special to him as it is to me,” she said. “There are still plenty of games left in the season. We’re on a winning streak, and we plan to carry it into the postseason.”
The Cowboys continued their winning ways Saturday, hosting West Grand and securing another straight-set victory. Meeker took the first set 25-23, the second 25-8, and closed out the match with a 25-23 win. The second set was particularly impressive, as the Cowboys showed their ability to dominate.
