MHS football defeats Cedaredge 48-13

MEEKER | The Meeker Cowboys football team played their Homecoming game this past Friday against the visiting Cedaredge Bruins. Going into the game, the Cowboys had dominated Cedaredge, winning the last 10 matchups between the two teams. That streak continued as the Cowboys improved to 11-0 against Cedaredge with a 48-13 victory.

With the win, the Cowboys moved to 3-2 on the season, while the Bruins dropped to 3-2.

The Cowboys’ game plan was to be more physical than Cedaredge. Head coach Andy Coryell emphasized the need for toughness against the Bruins.

“That’s a big, strong, physical team up front, and I was really proud of our guys and how we matched their physicality,” Coryell said.

Senior contributions played a key role in the Cowboys’ victory. Meeker senior Cade Blunt rushed for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Coryell praised the offensive line for their strong performance.

“The guys up front played really well tonight. We put some new guys in different positions and asked them to do things that don’t really fit them, but they performed well,” Coryell said.

Running back Clay Crawford also made a big impact, tallying 117 total yards and three touchdowns. The 137 rushing yards by Blunt marked a season-high for him, while the Cowboys totaled 250 rushing yards on the night—their highest since September 2023.

Coryell credited the team’s effort for their success.

“It’s certainly not a strategy—it’s the kids. It was a ton of effort, and they executed it,” Coryell stated.

Despite the lopsided score, Coryell stressed that the game was never out of reach for the Bruins.

“They’ve got a lot of athletes, and I think that team can score from anywhere at any time,” Coryell said. “There was no getting comfortable, even with the score. They’ve got too many weapons over there to get very comfortable.”

The Cowboys will look to continue their winning streak on the road Friday as they face off against Roaring Fork at 7 p.m.
