A new seventh-grade middle school boys basketball team, the Meeker Mountain Lions, competed in a tournament this past weekend, emerging victorious. Head coach Brett Watson described his team’s preparation leading up to the tournament. “We had previously played some of the teams, so we had a sense of what to expect with their strategies, and we developed a couple of new plays to include in our playbook for the tournament,” Watson said. “We all felt confident. The boys have been working hard at practice to learn the new plays, and they have played really well together as a team all year, continuing on from their success with their seventh-grade season.” Throughout the tournament, Watson said his team played well and had fun, despite facing some challenges. “We did not shoot well at times, but our great rebounding, strong defense, and all-out hustle were consistent throughout the tournament,” Watson said. The Mountain Lions ultimately came out on top, winning the tournament.
