Nine Meeker wrestlers capture gold in Hayden

MEEKER I Thirty-five youth wrestlers from the Meeker Community Wrestling Club competed in Hayden on Saturday and 31 placed in the top four. Champions of their bracket were Kaden Ridgeway, Dillon Hobbs, Brendan Clatterbaugh, Cade Blunt, Judd Harvey, Noah LeBlanc, Ty Goedert, Kelton Turner and Dax Sheridan.

Meeker tracksters shine bright at Woodburn meet

MEEKER I The weather for the Frank Woodburn Invitational track meet, held in Stocker Stadium on Saturday was not so good, but, according to Meeker head coach John Strate, the competition was, which included 17 schools from all five size classifications.

Pelloni places fifth at state wrestling

RBC I Nine wrestlers from Rio Blanco County qualified and wrestled in the Colorado Middle School State Wrestling Championships last weekend in Denver and one returned with a medal. Barone Middle School eighth-grader Tevin Pelloni, who finished fifth, was the county’s lone placer.

Middle school wrestlers to state

RBC I Ten Rio Blanco middle school wrestlers, including eight from Rangely, wrestled in the Western Slope Regional Tournament over the weekend in Grand Junction. Nine of those 10 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament in Denver this weekend.

Cowboys drop doubleheader

MEEKER I The Meeker High School boys’ baseball team lost a doubleheader in Hotchkiss on Saturday, and, if the weather cooperates, the Cowboys look to rebound as they will host the Cedaredge Bruins on Saturday at Paintbrush Park. The first Cowboy test will start at 11 a.m.

Pelloni ends mat season undefeated

MEEKER I Barone Middle School eighth-grader Tevin Pelloni finished the regular season of the middle school wrestling season undefeated and he will wrestle in the state-qualifying middle school regional tournament in Grand Junction this weekend.

Rangely’s Coombs wins mat title

RANGELY I The Rangely wrestling program hosted the Northwestern Colorado Championships on Saturday, and middle school coach Jeff LeBleu, who came out of retirement, was thankful for everyone’s help and support in pulling off a successful tournament.
