Loose Ends: Welcome, travelers!

The rockslide in Glenwood Canyon produced an impromptu opportunity for all our Rio Blanco County boosters to get a new campaign up and running. Although the road may be repaired sooner than it was originally thought, the first and only “Detour Days” celebration will not have been held. Of course,[Read More…]

Loose Ends: Placing a date in time

Every now and then a significant date comes to mind. Usually it has personal significance, as it marks a birthday or anniversary celebration for family and friends. Other times it is of a wider significance — a national holiday or a day that is etched in everyone’s mind.

Loose Ends: On a four-day week

The school district is facing massive budget cuts and once again a four-day school week is under consideration. As an elementary school teacher during those years, I had mixed feelings about it. I was a traditionalist and believed in the educational philosophy that an increased amount of time in the[Read More…]

Loose Ends: Weather-wise words

Loose Ends: Still moving forward

“Still standing — twice,” the mother of an almost-1 year old reported recently. The grandmother inquires regularly as to his latest accomplishments and is used to the mother reporting all sorts of changes that mark his passage from infancy to childhood.

Loose Ends: Timely offer shapes up

Never mind making any New Year’s resolutions or setting goals you will never achieve — a new opportunity has opened up that will make them for you.

Loose Ends: Letting the light shine

Walking home the other night, the twinkling lights on display in most every neighborhood lent warmth and light. I was amazed to see even the backyard of one home lit up as well.

Loose Ends: Caring and sharing

Recently, the Denver television Channel 9 program “9 Who Care” program focused on Meeker’s own Dave and Enid Steffen. This Christmas Eve will be the last for The Bakery, as the Steffens are retiring and closing the business.
