
MEEKER | The Barone Middle School girls’ basketball teams had an impressive start to their season this past Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, with both the eighth-grade and seventh-grade squads securing victories in their games at Hayden.
The eighth-grade A team faced Hayden’s A team and secured a decisive 52-4 win. Every player contributed points, led by Raegan Clatterbaugh with 16. Cienna Rogers added 9 points, Haigen Harrison and Midy Camargo each scored 8, Tinlie Strate and Hattie Brennan added 4 apiece, and Mia Hernandez chipped in with 2 points.
Head coach Mindy Finley praised her team’s defensive efforts.
“We played remarkably well on defense for their first game of the season,” Finley said.
The eighth-grade B team also triumphed, defeating West Grand’s B team 13-5. Aidyn Ehnstrom led the Cowboys with 6 points, followed by Tacey Toon with 4, Jordyn Garcia with 2, and Sophia Moody contributing a free throw.
The seventh-grade team played Hayden to open their season, achieving a dominant 48-0 victory. Graysie Coryell led the charge with 24 points, followed by Cora Lewis with 10 points, Harper Ducey with 6, and both Uriah Padilla and Addi Shonk adding 4 points each.
In their second game of the day, the seventh-grade team took on West Grand, earning a 36-6 win. Coryell once again led with 24 points, supported by Lewis with 6 points, Padilla with 4, and Shonk and Ducey each adding 2.
Head coach Molly Doan expressed pride in her team’s performance.
“Everyone on the team contributed in rebounding and assists, working great as a team for their first two games together,” Doan said.
The teams will take a short break before hosting Rangely at the elementary school on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at 5 p.m. Good luck to the Barone Middle School girls’ basketball teams—go Cowboys!
