MEEKER | Last week, the Barone Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade A and B volleyball teams wrapped up an incredible and successful season at the district tournament in Rangely. The program finished strong, carrying momentum from dominant wins in their final home matches into the tournament.
The Cowboys closed out their home schedule with a sweep over Craig, with every squad securing a decisive victory. That energy fueled both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams as they entered the season-ending tournament.
In tournament play, the eighth-grade A and B teams each opened with two-set sweeps over Hayden. The A team continued its unbeaten run by defeating Steamboat Springs and Sleeping Giant in the playoff rounds before sweeping Sleeping Giant again in the championship final. The eighth-grade girls won every set they played, capturing the district championship in commanding fashion.
The B team also claimed a title after defeating Hayden in straight sets. Though they later fell to Rangely’s A team, their earlier win over Hayden secured the district championship plaque for Meeker.
The seventh-grade program was equally impressive, with both the A and B squads finishing their seasons undefeated. Head coach Molly Turner praised her team for their effort and character throughout the year.
“The seventh-grade girls had a fantastic season. We ended with a fun-filled Saturday in Rangely,” Turner said. “The girls worked hard, played with few mistakes, and they were kind to one another. Thank you. And a personal shout out to #3 for Rangely — you are a gift.”
Head coach Jordan Brown also reflected on the season’s success.
“Coach Debbie, Coach Molly, and I are extremely proud of this exceptional group of young women,” Brown said. “They worked hard at every practice, maintained phenomenal attitudes all season, and made our coaching season a true pleasure. We are excited to watch their skills continue to develop and look forward to seeing them perform at the high school level.”
The Cowboys finished the season with four standout records:
- Eighth grade A: 11-0
- Eighth grade B: 8-1
- Seventh grade A: 12-0
- Seventh grade B: 11-0
With every team finishing as champions — and three squads undefeated — the Cowboys’ middle school program proved that the future of Meeker volleyball is bright.
