meeker | Barone Middle School volleyball finished their season with a home tournament last Saturday. Ten schools consisting of 28 teams traveled to Meeker for the tournament. With all the schools the Cowboys used three gyms to accommodate all the teams allowing each team to play at least two games.

The main gym was eighth grade A teams. Meeker started strong against Craig and won in two sets. They next played in the semi-finals but lost to West Grand. West Grand won the 8A tournament in a final game with Rangely.

“The eighth grade girls had a great season,” commented coach Molly Turner, “we saw an incredible amount of improvement throughout the season. Even though we fell short to Rangely and West Grand, the girls played really hard, and fought throughout the entire match.”

The eighth grade team is made up of 22 girls: manager Abby Quinteros, Abigail Amick, Adara Jones , Althea Halstead, Auri Murray, Avarie Caulfield, Bella Munger, Berkli Harvey, Braylin Pena, Caydence Smith, Demi Duncan, Gracee Gardner, Hailey Schwartz, Iris Holmes, Kalee Ivy, Lauryn Shults, Lucille Munger, McKenna Berthelson, Norah Loar, Peyton Arnold, Sienna Rolen and Mellisa Holden.

“I am extremely proud of this group of girls, and I had a great time coaching them,” commented Turner.

The 7A teams played at the elementary gym. Meeker started their day against Craig and then moved on to play East Grand. They won against both teams and played in the championship match against Rangely. Meeker 7A lost to Rangely, taking the runner-up position.

“The seventh grade girls had a very successful season,” said Turner. “We ended on a win which was ideal. I am proud of the girls for their hard work and for their kindness throughout the year.”

The seventh grade team has 24 girls: Adailin Valenzuela, Alexandria Trout, Aly Healy, Avery Michels, Azalia Bresnak, Cienna Rogers, Grace Vierra, Haigen Harrison, Hannah Anderson, Jemma Bair, Jenna Pelloni, Jordyn Garcia, Joslin Spieth, Kinnley Smith, Kylee Barrios, Mackenzie Denny, Maite Camargo, Maria Lopez, Mia Hernandez, Raegan Clatterbaugh, Riley Thompson, Savannah Petrocco, Shae Blakley, Tinlie Gates and Kate Sanders.

In the auxiliary gym of the high school there was a 16 team bracket with 7B and 8B teams meeting in the final championship game.

Meeker 7B had some amazing matches leading them all the way to the championship match. They played Soroco to win the B tournament.
