Plein air artists out and about within county
MEEKER I The Plein Air Meeker 2016 art competition has returned this year, and paint out is now underway through June 30. During paint out, which began Wednesday, fans can keep an eye open for artists painting outside, almost anywhere throughout Rio Blanco County.

Craig runner wins 10K race
MEEKER I The first annual Park to Art 10K race was held on Saturday and included 20 participants. Coming away with the overall win was 13 year-old Wyatt Mortenson of Craig, who posted a time of 45.54.
Town of Meeker OKs Ute Park ballfield project
MEEKER I Representatives from the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation & Park District (ERBM) asked the Town of Meeker Board of Trustees for a formal motion to support the Ute Park ballfield project at the town council meeting June 7.

The inaugural five-day Meeker Classic National Cattledog Association Cattledog Trials began bright and early on Wednesday morning, and the first team to begin the scoring action was Steve Wight of Bancroft, Idaho, and his well-known partner Levi, seen above steering his three cows toward the No. 5 gate.

Obituary: Ernie Melvin Coats
Ernie Melvin Coats, 81, died May 29, 2016, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Ernie was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Meeker, Colo., the son of Milo Melvin Coats and Edna Lucille (Hart) Coats. Ernie was graduated from Meeker High School and the Army Corps of Engineers School with highest honors.
