Barone rally falls short

MEEKER I After overcoming a 17-point deficit, Meeker’s Barone Middle School almost pulled off the big comeback. But the eighth-graders came up short, losing to Craig 37-35 in last Saturday’s district championship game. “This one did not start well,” said coach Neil Joy.

Barone takes two games

MEEKER I Barone Middle School’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team will go into Saturday’s district tournament on a winning note. Both the A and B teams won their games against Steamboat Springs before the Thanksgiving break. The B team won 29-14, while the A team won 35-28.

Mixed results for jr. high basketball

MEEKER I Barone Middle School’s seventh-grade A team won Saturday 30-18, outscoring the visiting team in every quarter. “We were very successful with our full-court press,” said coach Ben Anderson. “The other team got wore out quickly.”

Barone wins county rematch

RBC I In a rematch of county teams, Meeker’s Barone Middle School boys’ basketball teams prevailed. In the eighth-grade games last Thursday, Meeker’s A team won 28-23 with Jake Boesch scoring 10 points and Dylan Mobley eight. Rangely’s Conner Phelan led all scorers with 13 points.

BMS downs Craig in basketball openers

MEEKER I In a good start to the season, Barone Middle School’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball teams won their openers Saturday against Craig. In the A game, Jake Boesch scored 11 points, Dylan Mobley six and Kevin Eli five to lead the way in Barone’s 26-20 win.
