36-7 win over Hayden Tigers ensures Meeker of 2009 playoff berth MEEKER I With a 36-7 victory against the Tigers in Hayden last week, the Meeker Cowboy football team clinched a playoff berth and will host the Hotchkiss Bulldogs for the Northwest League championship in Starbuck Stadium on Friday.
Lady Cowboys host district tournament
MEEKER I With the district volleyball tournament this week on their home court, the Lady Cowboys are peaking at the right time. In what proved to be a good tuneup for Meeker, the Lady Cowboys came through with three wins last week over De Beque, Hayden and Plateau Valley.
Meeker jumps on Rangely early to take 46-0 victory
MEEKER I Cowboy head football coach Shane Phelan said he does not script the first 15 plays for his team. If he did, it would have been difficult for him to script them any better last Friday. After the first 15 plays against county rival Rangely, Meeker led 30-0.
Barone volleyball team downs Rangely squad in ’09 season’s final match

Defense keys Meeker’s 14-7 victory
MEEKER I Although the Cowboy offense outscored the Paonia Eagles, according to head coach Shane Phelan, it was Meeker’s defense that won the game. “Our defense played well,” Phelan said. “To hold a team like Paonia to one touchdown, you have to do a lot of good things out there.”
