RANGELY I The Panther boys’ basketball team lost its first game of 2012 on the road but won its first in the new year at home, losing to the Plateau Valley Cowboys in Collbran Friday last before beating the DeBeque Dragons Saturday in Rangely.
Lady Cowboys win two
MEEKER I The Meeker girls’ basketball team showed up to play defense against the visiting Hayden Tigers and Vail Christian Saints last Friday and Saturday.

High school teams start 2012 play Friday
RBC I Both Rio Blanco County high school wrestling teams will travel across the state line to open the 2012 season at the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, and three of the local basketball teams will host at least one home game this weekend.
RHS wrestles in Classic
RANGELY I The Panther wrestling team traveled to Duchesne, Utah, last week and competed in a dual against the Eagles. Due to forfeits the dual was a good test of individual performance.
Hardy wins West Grand
MEEKER I “It was a good week for Hardy,” Meeker wrestling coach J.C. Watt said of senior Justin Hardy who won the 170-pound bracket last Saturday in Kremmling. Hayden won the team title, which featured 13 teams.
