MEEKER I Dr. Justin Grant, Trevor Grant, and Kurt Blunt took eight boys to Virginia Beach to wrestle in the National High School Wrestling Tournament.
Bow Muxlow lost to a very skilled wrestler on day one, then went on to pin two kids day two before running into another excellent kid, finishing the tournament 2-2.
Ty Goedert, Clay Crawford, and Abe Maupin had tough draws both days getting two great wrestlers two days in a row, all three went 0-2, but gained some valuable mat time.
Cade Blunt and Tanner Musser each won a match on day one, then lost their second on day one, and again lost their first match on day two. Getting wins at the national tournament shows the quality of the wrestling by these boys.
Connor Blunt had one of the largest brackets of all the kids, very tough draw on Friday then two excellent matches Saturday, one going into three overtimes, where Blunt prevailed before once again coming up against a skilled wrestler in a very hard weight class, but he finished 2-2.
Judd Harvey h.ad a tough draw on day one, but battled back through for six matches straight on Saturday to earn his second All-American title. Not only did he battle back, but he battled back to one place higher than the kid who beat him on day one. He finished the tournament 6-2 and in fourth place, two places higher than his 2021 national tournament.
“We had a good showing this year at nationals,” commented Grant.
The boys were sponsored by many businesses and individuals from Meeker and across Rio Blanco County, with their major sponsors being Athlos Life and Grant Family Dentistry.
