High winds hurt times at May 3 Craig meet

MEEKER I The Meeker High School track and field team returned to competition on Monday, May 3 in Craig at the Clint Wells Invitational.
Due to high wind, there was not a high number of personal records set. Despite the weather and the stiff competition, there were still some good performances from both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Highlighting performances for the girls’ team were Cody Pfau and Tristan Nielsen in the 800 run. The girls placed third and fourth, earning valuable team points. Pfau also ran for a fourth-place finish in the 1,600 run. In the sprinting events, the girls’ team also had a respectable showing. Kathryn Doll placed fourth in the 100 dash and sprinted her way to first place in the 200 dash. Not far behind was freshman Cassi Fronatt, who finished in sixth place. The girl jumpers did not have a great day, but still were able to earn some points. Doll placed sixth in the long jump and first in the triple jump. In the high jump, Jordan Brown brought home a sixth-place finish, while Amanda Kendall finished seventh.
For the boys’ team, the day was highlighted by senior Brock Campbell winning the 800 run by almost five seconds. Joe McPhail also participated in the 800 run. Despite the wind, he still ran a personal best with his time of 2:36. McPhail also participated in the 3,200 run posting another personal record. In the jumping events, Colton Brown brought home first place in the high jump with his jump of 6 feet. He also competed and finished fourth in the 4×100 meter relay, consisting of Alema Atoafa, Toby Casias and Jake Nieslanik. The same group placed third in the 4×200 meter relay. In the long jump, freshman J.J. Wyatt set a new personal record despite the foul weather. The Cowboy throwers also were not bothered by the wind. Junior Ryan Wix set a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 41-4.
