You cannot get COVID-19 from the vaccine, as it does not contain the live virus, or even a complete virus. COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, like those manufactured by Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer, give instructions for our cells to make a harmless piece of what is called the “spike protein.” The spike protein is found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
