We’re heading into a busy weekend with the Meeker Summer Rodeo Series kicking off tonight, the first Meekerpalooza of the season is tomorrow, and the annual HopeWest Gala — always a fun and heartwarming event — is Saturday.
I saw someone refer to a rodeo as a “cowboy zoo” recently, and when I mentioned it to Caitlin she said “cowboy amusement park” would be more accurate. Now I’m going to have to go to the rodeo and make comparisons!

• Scenic Byway reception, June 18 — The Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway Committee will host a community reception at the White River Museum on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments provided. RSVP online.

• Financial literacy classes — Free classes on budgeting, saving, debt and credit will be held June 24 and July 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. Dinner and childcare provided. Call 970-879-5605 to register.
• Mitigation project meeting, June 30 — A community meeting on wildfire mitigation and forest health will be held June 30 at 6 p.m. at the Buford Schoolhouse.
• Local Working Group meeting, July 2 — The White River Conservation District will host an NRCS Local Working Group meeting July 2 at 6 p.m. at the Meeker Fire Protection District. Food provided.
• Fire Preparedness Day, July 17 — A free wildfire preparedness bootcamp for landowners will be held July 17 from 5-7 p.m. during Meekerpalooza on the courthouse lawn. Smokey Bear will attend.
