Dear Editor: Vernon J. Baker, an African American who received the Medal of Honor for his heroic service in Italy during World War II, died this past July. His picture is displayed in the Pentagon.

RBC I The day that World War II ended, Nov. 11 — has been a sacred day on the calendar for 95 years. It was eight more years, 1926, before Congress officially dubbed Nov. 11 as Armistice Day.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Meeker VFW and Women’s Auxiliary presented the VFW Pledge of Allegiance award to preschoolers. It is a certificate of good citizenship and Pledge of Allegiance award.
