MEEKER I On Saturday, about 45 people attended a book signing by former Meeker resident Diane Les Becquets for her latest novel “Breaking Wild” at Meeker Public Library. The event was sponsored by Les Becquets’ publisher (Berkley, Penguin Random House).

Obituary: Joseph Alan Morrison
Joseph Alan Morrison never forgot his Meeker roots. A proud descendant of a Western Colorado pioneer family, Alan, who always preferred his middle name, was born on Aug. 4, 1941, to Louise and Joe Morrison. He died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at the age of 74.
Meeker girls carry No. 4 seed
MEEKER I With only one game left in the regular season, the Meeker High School girls’ basketball team will finish as the No. 4 seed in the league. The girls will play in Oak Creek on Tuesday to determine if they will advance to the district tournament.

Open house Friday, Saturday for county’s new Justice Center
RBC I All appears to be going well and progressing on schedule for the new Rio Blanco County Justice Center on Main Street in Meeker, the site of the old Meeker Elementary School.
Meeker wrestling team has four regional champs, 10 going to state
MEEKER I The brackets are set for the 2016 Colorado State Wrestling Championships, and Meeker will have wrestlers in 10 of the 14 brackets, including four regional champions, one of whom has an opportunity to make Meeker and Colorado history.
January was STEM month at MES library
MEEKER I January was Library Month at Meeker Elementary School, utilizing the theme of “robots.” The students were invited to make and bring a robot to the library. By the end of the month, 111 robots took over the MES library.
