CNCC flight team soars at NIFA competition
RANGELY I The Colorado Northwestern Community College flight team competed in the NIFA Regional SAFECON 2010, finishing in third place overall in the school category. That ranking brings with it an invitation to the National SAFECON 2011, which will be held in May at the Ohio State University.

Shocking! Meeker High shock assembly aims to scare students into safe driving habits
MEEKER I If the purpose was to shock, it worked. Graphic images of victims of alcohol- and drug-related accidents and accident victims who didn’t wear seatbelts were shown on a big screen during an assembly last week at Meeker High School. The images had the desired effect on students.

BOCES aims to provide kids nutritious weekend meals
RANGELY I The Rio Blanco BOCES staff started a “Feeding Our Future” backpack program in September. This program is designed to provide nutritious food on the weekends to students in the Rangely and Meeker school districts who might otherwise go hungry.
Sixth-grader recoving from his injuries
MEEKER I Two days after undergoing surgery Oct. 27, Dade Heck came home. A week earlier, Dade, a sixth-grader, was injured in an accident Oct. 22 during recess at Barone Middle School.
Local voters follow some state trends
RBC I Voters, locally, turned out in big numbers for Tuesday’s general election. Seventy-six percent of voters in Rio Blanco County cast ballots. In some races, the outcome of local voting followed the statewide results. In other races, RBC voters bucked the statewide trends.
